Today our tutorial How to Install Official XXLE2 Android Gingerbread 2.3.6 Firmware Value Pack Update on Samsung Galaxy S Advance i9070. Galaxy S Advance was the successor of Galaxy S and it features with Dual core Cortex A9 processor, Mali 400MP GPU and 768 MB RAM. Galaxy S advance has pretty high specifications and can handle Android 4.0 ICS easily but Samsung seems to be too dedicated to Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Tab 2 and has not released an ICS update. They have just released a Value pack update Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread stock rom in June 2012 for different regions and other Nordic countries too. If users missed the update via over the air OTA or Kies then you can install this update manually by using ODIN flashing tool. The new firmware baseband version is dubbed as XXLE2 has many bug fixes and few small enhancements. On previous firmware have some issues with screen rotation, camera and Bluetooth functionality. There were also issues with WI-Fi and USB tethering, Samsung has tried to fix almost all reported bugs and added new performance and battery enhancements.
Pre-requisite:
1. Go ahead and backup all essential files, data and apps before proceeding ahead with the installation process. Also backup Images, Songs, Videos, Call Logs, Contacts, SMS, APN & MMS Settings and other doc files.
2. The battery must be charged minimum to 60% for successful completion of the process. All security suites must be disabled to avoid interruption in the installation.
3. Lastly enable the USB Debugging in your Galaxy S by navigating yourself to ‘Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging’.
4. Download compatible USB drivers for your specific device from here.

Assuming that, you have taken care of above mentioned points. So, let’s continue with the update of your Galaxy S Advance i9070.
Steps and Instruction to update Galaxy S Advance i9070 with Official XXLE2 Gingerbread 2.3.6 Firmware
1. You are recommended to download the Official XXLE2 Gingerbread 2.3.6 Firmware Package zip file from here. File name I9070XXLE2_I9070OXXLD4_NEE.zip and size will be 497MB.
2. After downloading the firmware package you must extract it. After extracting it you will get I9070XXLE2_I9070OXXLD4_NEE.tar.md5 file extension.
3. Download Odin flash tool from here to your Computer. Run the Odin3-v1.85.exe file to launch it on the PC.
4. Now, turn off your Galaxy S Advance device. After that press and hold the Volume Down + Center buttons, while pressing these buttons combination and press the Power button to boot into the Download Mode. When, green robot will appears on your screen that means your device has successfully landed at Download Mode.
5. Connect your device to the PC via USB Cable while Odin is open and wait until the ID:COM section turns yellow. The Yellow colour means the device has been connected successfully.
6. In Odin window, Click on PDA tab to select the file having a extension *.tar.md5 which you got after the extraction of firmware package in step 2. Once you have to select the required file i.e I9070XXLE2_I9070OXXLD4_NEE.tar.md5
8. Again switch off the device. Press and Hold both Volume Up + Center Home Buttons together and Power on the phone. Then it will enter into recovery mode. Here you need to select the ‘Wipe data/factory reset’ and ‘Wipe Cache partition’ to wipe all cache file from your Galaxy S Advance. Then, select ‘reboot system now’ to restart your Galaxy S Advance i9070.
Congratulation! You have now successfully updated Official XXLE2 Gingerbread 2.3.6 Firmware on your Galaxy S Advance i9070.

i didn't understand what is your problem. Have you got yellow color in Odin when you connected the device to PC?

Then I selected PDA and selected the updare md5 file and clicked start.

ReplyDeleteHello Jomari Taruc you need to select and enable Kies option while connecting the device to PC. Then only your device will be recognized by the Samsung Kies software.

ReplyDeleteyes the above update will voids the warranty but you can get back the warranty by installing default stock android OS i.e which came and loaded with the device. Moreover i didn't heard about Jelly Bean 4.1 update for Galaxy S advance may its just a rumor. Let's wait for official press release announcement from Samsung company.

XXLE2 doesn't have any kind of problems you facing on DDLD4 firmware. So better to move and install XXLE2 update on your device.

ReplyDeleteThe internet connection keeps falling away,sometimes once a day sometimes more.to solve this i have to turn off the phone and start it up again,then the phone works again but it can lose the connection any time or it can work all day.I live in the netherlands and have vodafone(i don't know if you need this info)

yes i saw so many users are complaining about network issue on DDLJ1 firmware. If you install the latest update xxle2 then your network problem will be solved. Moreover there is no official announcement from Samsung about Jelly Bean Update for Galaxy S Advance GT-I9070. So you need to wait some more time to get it

ReplyDeleteHey Max there is app called Triangle Away in Google Play store. It will help you restore and reset your flash binary counter to 0. Unfortunately that app is not compatible with Galaxy S Advance. We hoping they will add more devices support in upcoming release version.

i didn't face any reboot problem on XXLE2 update. After rooting the device you getting auto rebooting problem right ? Yes I9070ZSLG3 was latest firmware and better than xxle2. Try it and solve all your issues.

Now i can choose 2G & 3G network without restart problem..... Hi Shenoy may be method step above is not correct or may be just certain phone firmware is not suit for this europe firmware... For those still have no network restart issue try wipe many time before flash firmware......

you can update the device to XXLE2 and it also supports Dutch Language. There a lot of versions are available after XXLE2. But most of the people users uses XXLE2 firmware only because it doesn't have any issues.

ReplyDeleteI have succesfull updated my device. Only 1 note: between stap 7 and 8 you have to unplug the USB cabel. Otherwise stap 8 won't work.

ReplyDeleteI updated my phone to I9070DDLK2 a few hours ago. It seems to have no changes, but there is a scroll bug in this version. You can not sroll fast anymore. For the remainder the firmware is good and I can tell you something about the battery life in a few days.
ReplyDeleteThe battery life is about 24 hours, depends on how much you use it of course. In the week I tested the battery life of my phone he wasn't earlier as 24 hours at 0% and the battery was once only after 27 hours at 0%. All the time with wifi on and GPS and Bluetooth out.

Today android 4.1.2 (XXELL4) is released in Russia for the Galaxy S Advance. My question: Will a Dutch simcard work when i install the update from Russia? Any idea?

ReplyDeleteYes Dutch simcard works perfectly on Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2 XXLPY update. If it doesn't work you can downgrade your device to original state i.e Gingerbread version.

im from Macedonia,but i often im going to Slovakia..can i install russian JB update? will a macedonian or slovakian sim card work if i install russian JB update?
the JB update works will all sim cards nothing to worry. Go ahead and update the device if you have any problems let me know i will find a way for you.
ReplyDeleteI was reading through the forum on Sammobile about the latest JB firmware for i9070, it seems that we cannot downgrade to GB once the JB is updated.
ReplyDeleteIt seems that there is battery drain and network issue jb firmware. Can it be because of improper flashing method used or is a bug.
Any confirmations about possibility of downgrading to GB, battery drain and network issue on dual mode.

ReplyDeleteI had updated my firmware to jb 4.1.2 after reading all the negative feedbacks by people earlier on sammobile. We have to do a clean update through ODIN. I first got into recovery mode and did factory reset and cache. Then I got into download mode and flashed jb via ODIN. Remember, after flashing like this all your previous installed apps and personal settings gets cleared. Your I9070 is now a fresh phone with JB.

1) Very Smooth interface
2) Battery reached 70% in 21 hours from 100%, with normal use( some 5 min of 3G)
3) Eats too much of RAM, free RAM is 130 MB
4) Camera has Zoom, but zoom doesnot give clarity at all.
5) Network has got no issues at all even in dual mode.
6) We can play a video in a pop up window. No lags in video
