Install Android 4.0 ICS on Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wi-Fi with CyanogenMod 9 pre-alpha ROM

Today I will guide you How to Install Android 4.0 ICS on your Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wi-Fi model wi the help of CyanogenMod 9 pre-alpha ROM. All those who own Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 probably already have had experience with Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS). The credit obviously goes to the team of developers working through Xda-developer’s forum. Now, here comes Cyanogenmod 9, which is the latest and first official frimware Ice Cream Sandwich version in the Custom ROM family. It is still in the stages of development. Normally, we hardly see any official release from the Cyanogen development team. However, the lead developer of the team, Steve Kondik did post a link to the pre-alpha version of the CyanogenMod 9 for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. For more information of this rom you can visit the xda froum site and participate in the threads. And you can also suggest them what problems occuring in the roms. So they can slove the problems easily to make the roms very faster.
As a user, you will find everything working in your tab after you install it except the camera. The camera fails to work with the ICS builds because Samsung has not yet provided the required drivers and codes for the camera.

For the Honeycomb users of Galaxy Tab, Ice Cream Sandwich is fundamentally a visual refresh. Cyanogenmod 9 indicates a return to the regular AOSP code and features. The users can flash this ROM without any apprehension because it is running with a daily driver. All other features working perfectly except the camera module is not working. We hope that the developers may fix these issues as fast as possible and provide the stable rom for the Galaxy Tab users.

The Cyanogenmod development team has not ever been too keen with announcing release dates for their new versions.

They have always stuck to the policy of releasing the software whenever it is ready. The users have been expecting the official release of the version for quite some time now. Due to financial constraints, the development team lost availability of the servers for some time. Lack of access to a farm of servers caused the unusual delay this time. The team had appealed for financial donations on its site. The users responded in lightning flash. Within 24 hours, the team was able to resume work with an array of in-house servers. The team is still accepting donations. Hence, if you like to contribute, you surely can.

This new version has many benefits to offer. The WI-FI works very well. There is no SOD or display flickering anymore. Get HQ play back. You will not be complaining anymore about the ICS anymore when you use MTP mode for USB transfers.

  2. When you enter into Clockmod recovery there you can see a restore and backup. By selecting that backup option you can backup your current firmware and it will saved in sdcard/clockmod/backup. Make sure that the backup will be placed in safe places like PC or laptop. Sometimes if you wipe your phone the backup data will deleted then you can't restore the backup. Therefore you can't go back into original firmware of Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wi-Fi device.

  3. Will this version update on its own when the team releases the official version or will I have to search for the update and repeat this process? Is it possible to check for updates via the tab or do I have to watch their website? Thanks!

  5. Hello @amarelo if you don't have sd card then you can use internal storage to store that Rom file which you are going to flash. When you enter into clockwork recovery you can select internal storage and choose the zip file to complete the process.

  8. Hi Joseph. I have a Samsung tablet which runs on Android 4.1.2 but will not support Adobe Flash player. I understand that the latest version of Android that will do is 4.0. Could I downgrade my operating system to 4.0 and, if so, what problems might occur.

    Thanks David J
